In January 2021 we were both employed elsewhere. After an eventful Corona time, questions from the educational market concerning help with reading arrears rose to great heights. So we dove into the entrepreneurial world with these two ‘seasoned professionals’ by our side. With Paul’s intelligence and thorough approach, he managed to simplify our products and set up a clear, contemporary website, and created a strategic business plan for us. And Kisa said: “Guys, it’s now or never”.
Our successful company is now a BV (Ltd), in which we work 100% independently full of passion and pleasure. We collaborate with over ten freelancers at a growing number of schools in the South Holland region. We achieve great results and business is thriving.

With a combined experience of more than 25 years in education, Sandra van Leeuwen and Annemarie Moeskop founded Het Leeshuis five years ago, driven by one clear mission: to ensure that no child leaves school without strong literacy skills. As demand from schools grew rapidly—and results consistently proved their impact—their work expanded with Het Rekenhuis and Het Heldenhuis.
These successful pillars have now been brought together under one powerful name: Letterlijk Academie. Ensley Van den Berg was responsible for defining the strategic direction, sharpening the positioning, and leading the creative development of the new Letterlijk Academie website. From compelling copy and a strong visual identity to a fully considered and cohesive web design.
When your best friends are considering starting their own business and their intentions tick all our boxes – sustainable, ethical and good for mankind – we roll up our sleeves.
We’ve had numerous brainstorms, found a great company name (domain name was available) and started sketching. Branding/identity, formal materials and developed the website.
Based on the reading problems in schools AND the fact Covid-19 hit hard, reading issues have only risen. The Dutch government is stepping in with available budgets. Schools can now spend this money wisely: helping youngsters overcome their reading difficulties and educating teachers at the Academy.
